About the OECS Data Platform

The region of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) requires timely, relevant and country comparable data and official statistics to design and evaluate policies and programmes for the region's growth and development pursuits.

The quantitative information from, for and about the OECS region calls for a strategic approach to sustainably and efficiently strengthen statistical capacity across all aspects and phases of data production, dissemination and use. In that regard, the OECS Commission has created this centralised web-based data dissemination platform capable of storing country data and aggregating at the regional level and other specified country groups; and integrating the data with geospatial data; storing metadata, and displaying visual objects such as maps, infographics, tables and charts.

The purpose of the platform is to help citizen's make good decisions about their lives and livelihood; for businesses to make development and expansion decisions; and for anyone who wants to learn about the economic, social and environmental conditions in the OECS region. Good decisions require quality data that are publicly available and that are accessible anytime and anywhere.

The data groups will match the OECS region using the following subgroups of countries: Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (OECS 8) is a monetary union of eight of the 11 countries that use the same currency; the Eastern Caribbean Economic Union (OECS 7) is a union of seven of the eight countries that have signed a protocol for free movement people, services, capital and free circulation goods between and among them. Two members are French speaking countries - Martinique and Guadeloupe - and their statistical infrastructure conforms to that of the European Statistical System as departments of France. Some data, such as population, will be included for these countries.

About the OECS Data Platform

The region of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) requires quality country comparable data and official statistics to design and evaluate policies and programmes for the region's growth, development and regional integration pursuits. In that regard, this web-based data dissemination platform is capable of storing country data and aggregating at the regional level and other specified country groups; storing metadata; and displaying visual objects such as maps, tables and charts.

The platform is useful to anyone who wants economic, social and environmental data for the OECS region at the country and regional aggregate levels. These levels are the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (OECS 8), a monetary union of eight of the 11 countries and which use the same currency; the Eastern Caribbean Economic Union (OECS 7), a union of seven of the eight countries that have signed a protocol for free movement people, services, capital and free circulation goods between and among them; and OECS 9 for all English-speaking states. Martinique’s and Guadeloupe’s statistical infrastructure conforms to that of the European Statistical System as departments of France; and as such, not all their data will not be included in these aggregates.
